I have a question: When did Pro-Tools become the industry standard for recording//mixing/engineering/etc.?
I was reading an interview with producer Desmond Child about the creation of Ricky Martin's 'Livin' La Vida Loca,' and he stated that he had trouble crafting the song in the all-ProTools environment because of its use of live instrumentation. 'Vida' is also cited as being the first Hot 100 #1 song to be completely recorded in and mixed in ProTools.
My questions is (well, I have two questions) - what was used in the time period between multitrack and Pro-Tools (was it ADAT?), and when (a specific year would be nice, but a general time frame would work too) did Pro-Tools take over the entire industry?
Thanks!
EDIT: I should also add, 'Livin' La Vida Loca' was recorded in 1998, and released in March of 1999 according to Wiki. I can't imagine that there was limited-to-no Pro-Tools involvement with, say, Britney Spears' first album, which was out in 1998.
